Bugs got his name from Bugs Hardaway. In 1938 the studio asked for drawings of a proposed rabbit character and the Hardaway drawing was chosen from many offered. The drawing came to be known around the Termite Terrace as Bugs' Bunny and then Bugs Bunny. This is described in the Encyclopedia Britannica http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9095426/Bugs-Bunny
and in several interviews of Virgil Ross and Mel Blanc, several of which are posted at http://bugshardaway.blogspot.com/
what that guy said...
though, the versions I've heard have more funny details
Please share the funny details.
